Eadweard MuybridgeEadweard Muybridge was an English photographer, well known for his pioneering work in photographic studies of motion and in-motion picture projection.
He was born in 1830 9 April and died in 1904 8 May. Muybridge was a man who was famous for taking a moving image of a horse running. He was trying to prove how at some point, when a horse runs, all of it's legs are up in the air at the same time. |
He proved this by taking a 'moving image' and showing each step of a horse running.
Animated GifsAn animated gif is a type of image where it takes a series of stills and makes a repeated moving image. Or maybe a short clip of a film/video which would repeat over and over again.
In our GCSE class we experimented with the iPads on making a gif.. Mopho is an App on the ipad and iphone, it can create gifs simply and quickly. You can create a flipped image or a longer series of stills, e.g to make a story. Emma and Blue's Gifs.Me and Emma paired up to make our own moving images using an app called 'Mopho' on the iPads.
We tried to take pictures of different things, e.g jumping and running etc. I think that our moving images came out quite well and if we had a chance to make more that would be great. |
Time lapse and Stop motionTime lapse is when you take a series of images of something still, but with something moving in front of it. When making a time lapse you have to have gaps in between each photo so that when the images are put together , time looks like it is moving extremely quickly. Almost unnatural. On the right hand side is a video of time lapse, I liked this video because it had a variety of places of where they took pictures.
Stop motion is similar to time lapse but there is a vital difference. Stop motion is mostly used in animation, where still images (such a drawings or pictures) can appear to look like they're moving by linking each still together at a certain number per second. On the right side is an example I found of stop motion. I really like this because it's so creative and different yet quite creepy at the same time. |

Our attempt at a Time LapseHere is mine and Emma's time lapse. We did this using an iPad using the app 'Miniatures'.
We went into the cafeteria in our school while everyone was having break. It was really hard having to hold the iPad as still as possible for 20 minutes. We had nothing to lean it on so we had to place it on my lap and I had to hold it really still. Other wise it wouldn't work. |
The classroom time lapseMr Nicholls set up a camera in our photography lesson. The camera took an image every 10 seconds for an hour. He then made the final moving image. I think that it worked really well.
